Fight Club

My Favorite Line: “You have a generation of people who want to put their lives towards something. Advertising has them chasing cars and clothes they don’t need. Generations have been working in jobs. They hate just so they can buy things they don’t really need. We don’t have a great war on our hands or a great depression, but we do have a war of the spirit. We have a great revolution against the culture. We have a spiritual depression. We have to show people freedom by enslaving them and show them courage by frightening them.”

Book to Movie: This is the first book-movie adaptation I can remember ever thinking the movie is actually better than the book. It is also one of the most exact and impressive adaptations I have ever seen.

Progressive Notes:

  • If I could wake up in a different place, at a different time, would I be different person?
  • A moment is the most you can ever expect from perfection
  • What’s the difference between a condom and a cockpit? You can only get one prick inside a condom.
  • A lot of young people try to impress the world and buy too many things
  • The things you own end up owning you
  • If you don’t know what you want, you’ll end up with a lot of things you don’t
  • The first rule about fight club, is you don’t talk about fight club
  • The second rule about fight club is you don’t talk about fight club
  • Maybe we have to break everything to make something better of ourselves
  • Maybe the answer isn’t self-improvement, it’s self destruction
  • Maybe we don’t need a father to complete ourselves
  • Most people come to fight club to fight something. They’re too scared to fight. After a couple rounds, they’re not scared of anything anymore.
  • Sometimes you do something and you get screwed. Sometimes it’s the things you don’t do, and you still get screwed.
  • Ever since college, I make friends, they get married, I lose friends
  • The condom is the glass slipper of our generation. You slip it on when you meet a stranger. You dance all night. And then you throw it away.
  • If you lose your nerve before you hit the bottom, you’ll never succeed
  • It’s only after you lost everything that you’re free to do anything
  • Disaster is a natural part of my evolution. Only from destroying myself can I discover the greater power of my spirit.
